Lancer Radio is looking for DJs and hosts for new programs at the campus radio station. There are some qualifications to be considered.

"Students are required to take either Television and Radio 14A or 2B. When they complete either of those classes, they are eligible to be a DJ and have a program on Lancer Radio," said Sarah Canfield, a TVR instructor.

Canfield explained that students have to know the basics skills of radio and must be a certified board operator, which they need approval by a TVR instructor.

"Lancer Radio is a student-run and operated station with no involvement from instructors but we do oversee the students and teach them basic radio skills," Canfield added.

"We are currently looking for news shows, interview shows, more journalism-type programs. Currently 60 percent of the station is music while the 40 percent is talk radio."

The radio station is on the air on 88.9 FM, but covers only the area surrounding PCC.

The radio station is also online at lancerradio.org.

Lancer Radio showcases different programming from music to talk shows.

Shows in the lineup include "The Beatdown," a program in which Deejays showcase different mixes and "El Empujón" (The Push) a Spanish show about current Latino issues and music.

Lancer Radio has also started broadcasting games for the CCCAA champions Lady Lancers Basketball Team.

Rasheed Ali, play-by-play commentator for the team works with color commentator Steban Alives.

"We are starting to broadcast Lady Lancers Basketball on Lancer Radio, this is the first season we are broadcasting from the games and we are excited," Ali said.

Alexander Andres, better known as DJ A.I., hosts "The Beatdown," program.

Guest DJs from various stations including DJs at Power 106 and Latino 96.3 have appeared on the show. DJ A.I. has some advice for students who want a program on Lancer Radio.

"I recommend students to take the required classes and don't be afraid of the microphone," he said.

Christian Garcia, one of the hosts for "El Empujón," says students who want a program on radio need to have a passion in it.

"You need to have a desire to learn and be passionate about radio if you want to work in Lancer Radio," Garcia said.
