Ex-president delivers first assignments

Paulette Perfumo was put on a "special administrative assignment" for which she will be paid close to what she was making as president, about $215,000 annually.
Her first report contains eight pages of her summarizing the following 35 pages of attachments.
"I have been monitoring state and federal legislation as well as funding opportunities, particularly from grant sources," she said in the first report. After one page of introduction, she included a four-page memo about budget cuts from Vice Chancellor of College Finance and Facilities Planning Erik Skinner, and Linda Michalowski, vice chancellor of student services and special programs.
Perfumo also included in her report excerpts from Assembly bills, and briefs about bills that are pending in the Legislature. Most of the attachments come from the California Community College Chancellor's office. There are several pages of tables that are labeled as coming from the Chancellor's office, most with the word "draft" written on them.
She also included a table of local WIB (Workforce Investment Board) grants. PCC is not listed in the table.
Perfumo concludes her first report with short summaries of the status of the bills she mentioned earlier in her report.
Her second report begins with a summary of which bills have passed and what they mean, such as Assembly Bill 386, which makes textbook publishers as well as copyright holders provide captioned audiovisual content for the deaf and hearing impaired.
Perfumo lists in the second report several grants and foundations that could be tapped for extra money but does not go into great detail.
"Please let me know if I can provide any additional information on any of the above referenced items," she said. The next four pages are tables of which bills the chancellor's office is currently tracking, and then five pages of the Department of Education Federal Register website printed out.
