PCC's newspaper staff received their first Online Journalism General Excellence award from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges in November.

"It was a big thing to get the online General Excellence. It's been something we've stressed this semester by improving our online edition and getting a lot of breaking news as far as sports and news," said Editor-In-Chief, Jeremy Balan. "I think that was our biggest accomplishment."

Courier staff has put an emphasis on pcccourier.com.

"We emphasize it because that's the way that our business is going. If things keep going out to the web, as a college newspaper we should follow suit and emulate all of the professional newspapers in the business," said Balan.

Several staff writers and photographers who attended the competitions and workshops Nov. 15 and 16 at CSU, Fullerton were honored for their mail-in work as well as on-the-spot competitions.

On-the-spot Honorable Mention awards were given to staff writer Bruna Nessif for broadcast news writing, Lancer Life editor Brittany Wong for feature writing, Managing Editor Christina Demirchyan for tabloid layout, Photo Web Editor Alejandra Bayardo for sports photo and Sports Editor Jason Lowder for news writing. Lowder also won second place in sports writing.

Several other awards were given to former and current staff writers, editors and photographers for news and feature writing, page layouts, photographs and photo illustrations.

Former Editor-In-Chief Stacey Wang received General Excellence for feature writing.

"I think we did really well. Everybody was really prepared last semester and worked really hard," said Wang.

Mail-in awards were given to Daniel Belis, Orlando Pina, Nathan Solis, Linus Shentu, Rodrigo Mejia, Christian Daly, Franco Sui Yuan, Rosa Vazquez, Erik Molano, Victor Jiang, Sandy Ha, Linda Birch, and Szilvia Gogh.
